The role of Information Systems in Knowledge Management
Information Systems (IS) are used as an enabler for
better Knowledge Management. The specific technologies
that are typically used are:
- Email
- Internet/Intranet sites
- Enterprise and Business Portals
- Document Management Systems
- Workflow solutions
- Databases, Data Warehouses and Data Mining
- Any application or system that helps users to work
with information
Companies typically already have around 80% of the infrastructure
(networks, PC’s, email, etc.) that is required
for Knowledge Management. Focus is needed on the last
20% in order to fully obtain the true value of their
IS investment.
